OLD DAIRY BOWL?

Postby Mark H » Sun Sep 25, 2011 6:55 pm

I found this bowl and noticing that it has an oval in shape presumed it had been turned from green wood. I'm not an expert on wood but it could well be sycamore. Anybody got any idea of it's origin? It is about 15 " across. It would take some wellie to turn this by hand!

None of the tell tale signs of a pole lathe turned bowl but these may have been sanded out. Green wood can be turned on a power lathe. Looks like it has some character tho, a nice looking bowl however it was made.
Someone with greater knowledge than me will post I am sure.
