Good job Paul, it takes a long time to sort out a bunch of pics like this but it really is good for folks to see. Nice clean finish you are getting off the tools too.

Great Paul . . .

If you scroll down quickly you can almost animate it. Have you thought about videoing the whole process ?

This last weekend i was at Spoonfest ( a fantastic and memorable event ) on saturday night i was approached by a very nice chap by the name of Bob ( was great to me you mate ) He introduced himself and shook my hand. He told me that he had been struggling with his bowl turning, he had read this post and printed off every picture and placed all the pics in front of his lathe whilst he turned his next bowl and got a good result. Knowing that this has helped at least one person put a smile on my face and makes the effort of posting the original pics more than worth while :-)

Great thread. question, that bit of dark wood (pith wood?) in the middle, is that going to affect drying? Im new to this bowl-stuff you see :)

Not at all, as long as you remove the first ring or two it will be fine. i like to go as close as possible because i like the effect.

Thanks for that. I have only been bowl-turning a couple of months now (6 or 8 bowl maybe?) and my earliest are now quite dry but not dry enough :? I put a couple in a warm cupboard overnight to see and the next day they had definitely warped a little.
I must learn a little patience!

The art is to dry them slowly, they will still warp but reduces the risk of cracking. I just leave mine on a shelf in the workshop and turn them now and again.
