Can't buy a hand forged adze anywhere online.

Postby 4crosses » Sun Aug 30, 2015 11:51 pm

I'm looking for a quality small hand forged adze (for dishing out Welsh stick chairs seats) but can't find one anywhere. Can anyone recommend one and where I can order from please. All Gransfors Bruks and Hans Karlsson adzes appear to be sold out and awaiting more stock all accross Europe. Any ideas of where I can order and what is going on with stock levels?

You could try this guy;

Peter Maas, excellent German black smith.
His english isn't amazing but if you keep it simple I'm sure he'll understand.
His tools are fantastic.
I have two of his adzes (long handle ones) they are great and not expensive.

Try Tools for Self Reliance, Crickhowell Wales www.tfsrcymru.org.uk. They have small adzes made in Tanzania by blacksmiths out of old lorry half-shafts. They will also accept any surplus tools and gardening implements you may have.

you might try ordering direct from Hans Karlsson in Sweden. With a wee bit of patience et voila. Happiness :) Initially I intended to order through Dictum.de but they were out of stock and also waiting for an order.
I placed my order the beginning of September and had it in my hands end of the month. Cheers.

John Beavis from Chippenham Wilts will probably make you one - or look on eBay.fr for an herminette de tonnelier (also known as an asse or assette)..

See: http://www.ebay.fr/itm/Ancien-outil-ton ... SwnipWXgMi

Currently at 15 euros (will go higher)
