Bodgers Ball 2014

Postby voodooalpaca » Wed Nov 20, 2013 5:42 pm

The Bodgers Ball 2014 will be held on Friday 9th May to Sunday 11th May 2014 at Playsters Farm, Herstmonceux, East Sussex, BN27 1PX.

We had intended to take the Ball to the North this year but were disappointed not to be able to locate a suitable venue. However, we hope to have secured our chosen Northern site for 2015.

The craft competition Themed Item will be 'Something to entertain the children', and this year the 'First Chair' competition will return.

Please volunteer by contacting Mike Gordon (mailto: mikeinthewood@hotmail.com).

-----------------------------

The Bodgers Ball 2014 will be held on Friday 9th May to Sunday 11th May 2014
at Playsters Farm, Herstmonceux, East Sussex, BN27 1PX.
Just in case you are wondering why we are not holding the Ball 'Up North'. We
had intended to take the Bodgers Ball to the North in 2014 but to our great
disappointment the venue fell through and we were unable to locate a suitable
alternative. We're delighted that Richard Bingham with the Sussex Local Group
has offered to host us at Playsters Farm near Herstmonceux in East Sussex and
we are looking forward to the 2014 Bodgers Ball in the heart of 'Trug
Country'. Meanwhile we will be working with the East Midlands Group to bring
the Bodgers Ball to a great venue in Nottinghamshire so we can also look
forward to a Ball in the North for 2015.
To give you plenty of time to work on your craft competition entries for the Ball
the Themed Item will be 'Something to entertain the children' and this year will
see the return of the 'First Chair' competition.
Organising and running the Ball takes a lot of effort and many hands can make
lighter work, so if you are interested in helping out either before or during the
Ball please contact Mike Gordon (mikeinthewood@hotmail.com).
Competition classes
The classes for the craft competitions in 2014 will be Arm Chair; Side Chair; First
Chair; Stool; Junior; Wooden item (not covered in other Classes); Spoon (knife
finished); Spoon (sanded); Non-turned Treen; Turned Treen; Field & Craft; Tools;
and Themed Item.
The rules for the Tool class will be clarified this year and published in the next
Gazette, but briefly, the intention is that entrants will be required to identify
major bought-in components (excluding minor items such as rivets etc) in the
same way that entries in all classes are required to identify powered tools used
to produce them.
In addition, members are invited to submit ‘exhibition items’; these will not form
part of the craft competition, but will be purely for display for the interest of the
membership. Given the rule that a member may only enter a single item into
each class, this would allow a member to informally display additional items,
including where they fall outside the bounds of the competition classes
altogether.
This year it is also planned that members may elect to have their competition
entries and/or their exhibition items marked to signify that they are available for
sale.

do I need to buy tickets for the Bodger's Ball?
If so, who from and when please?
Any other information would be useful to a newbie - what to bring, what not to bring, what facilities are available etc...
Many thanks, Jane M

O yes you do. Anyone just turning up strains the infrastructure - huge amount of effort goes into providing sufficient portable toilets, beer, food.

option 1: Join the Bodgers, get the April 2014 Bodgers Gazette and there will be a form in there.
option 2: wait for some kind soul to post a link on this site which you can download, and print off and mail to organisers. They have big job to co ordinate 2 or 4 hundred payments and banking. They may offer online booking this year - watch this board!

Bring tent , or book accommodation nearby. Loos available. No showers available. Food is sometimes available on Sat night. Other meals you'll be cooking your meals yourself, or bring a cook, or create a 'meal syndicate' - like a student flat share where you establish a cooking rota. Each year is slightly different, so you'd need to look at the joining details. You must be member of Bodgers ( formally known as APTGW) to attend the Ball.

Phil Pidell has been working hard to make the on-line booking possible.
You will be able to pay using Paypal. You don't actually need a Paypal account youself

http://www.essortment.com/make-payment-paypal-paypal-account-107248.html

tells you how.

Hi, I'm having difficulties ordering my ticket for the ball. I've added the tickets I want, but when I try to click on the 'view cart' tab, it simply reloads the page and doesn't display my order or details of how to pay. Has anyone else reported any problems with this? Can anyone advise?

Thanks

Ben
