We are passionate about connecting young people and adults with the outdoors

One of the ways in which we are trying to do this is through food. Before agriculture people still had food, instead of farming they foraged, roots, shoots, leaves, berries, fruit, game and it’s still out there it’s just we've forgotten to tap into this abundance.

The inaugural Great Wild Food and Chilli Fair is happening at Rooks Hall, Blackwater Estuary, Maldon, Essex on the 27th and 28th June 2015 the first event of its kind in the region and our mission simple; that is to introduce young people and adults to a new and exciting range of wild foods safely and in a sustainable way, whilst providing them with the opportunity to re- engage with nature and all that it has to offer, giving a voice and a platform to those that live and work in the countryside, our local producers and artisan traders as will as the skilled Green crafts people who want and are willing to pass on and share their knowledge with others.

The fair will provide visitors with a Wild, Hot and Raw experience and will be based around three distinct arenas for example within the 'Wild arena' we are planning a Bushcraft Gathering with opportunities to conduct a number of workshops and classes demonstrating bushcrafts, primitive living skills including leather work, spoon carving, hide tanning forging, basket weaving and cordage making plus nature-focused activity workshops, across the whole weekend.

Visitors will be able to pre book some of the green craft workshops on offer over the weekend as well as sample delicacies from expert foragers /chefs, as well as local artisan traders, farms, smokehouses and brewers. Additionally, they can brush up their culinary skills at demonstrations and workshops hosted by some renowned local foodies promoting and showcasing wonderful wild ingredients foraged from the hedgerows, coastline beaches and rivers alongside chilli aficionados and fantastic artisan produced products – we also have the 1st Official Essex Chilli Cook Uk for a place in the UK and World finals held in the USA, there will be loads to see and do and, of course, to EAT :D .

A planned children’s zone (Kids go wild) which will create a fun and safe environment for children to learn about the natural world and practice plant identification.

We are expecting approximately 6/7000 over the weekend with camping, from across Essex,Suffolk Sussex Surrey and Kent making it an ideal platform for you to promote your work/courses to wider audience. For more details and application forms go to our website we look forward to seeing you.
