Bowl Turning

Postby paul atkin » Sat Oct 30, 2010 4:42 pm

I have been very busy this year with course bookings and it has been great to meet so many nice folks. This week i had a complete beginner come and spend 3 days with me in the workshop. We started prepping up a nice bit of sycamore for the first bowl and turned it that day; concentrating on basic tool handling skills. The second day was more advanced, a nice lump of ash was turned into a lovely bowl. The third day gave us great weather so we fired up the forge and the learner made a couple of hook tools. The afternoon was spent turning a nice 9in sycamore bowl with the tools made that morning. The end result was amazing for a total novice. Well done Emily and keep up the good work.

Wow, well done Emily - and well done Paul - it says something about your skill as a teacher when a total novice can accomplish so much in such a short space of time..
