The purpose of this, the official Association of Polelathe Turners & Greenwood Workers web site, is to promote green woodworking and all its associated crafts so that once again the woodlands of the world are nurtured and valued as a source of employment and enjoyment.

The Association of Polelathe Turners and Greenwood Workers was created in 1990 by a group of a dozen like minded individuals who wanted to rescue the art of polelathe turning and greenwood working from obscurity. The organisation has a global membership of over 770.

If you would like to be involved in the running of the APT&GW, even in a small way please read the Chairman's call for volunteeers.

We are pleased to announce that you can now use Paypal to subscribe to APT & GW membership. You can also use one of the other methods listed.

Subscribers to the APT & GW receive a quarterly magazine called the Bodger's Gazette.  See Gazette pages

Local groups meet informally and can regularly be found in several places. Some have their own news pages on this site. If you are looking for bodgers local to you try posting a request on the Ask and Answer bulletin board.  Or take a look at the list of local Local Groups.

The Ask and Answer bulletin board is a goldmine of information about greenwood working with experts from around the world contributing excellent answers to questions posed and loads more besides.

Windsors At Wycombe

A Definitive Exhibition of 18th century English Windsor Chairs from the 6th  to 31st  May 2012 at West Wycombe Park (NT), Bucks

This first ever exhibition to feature exclusively the earliest English Windsor chairs, made from around 1720, will include some 35 of the finest examples known from public and private collections in the UK. Focusing mainly on chairs crafted in the Thames Valley region, Windsors at Wycombe will be a perfect and possibly once-only opportunity to see how provincial and city makers varied in their interpretations of this quintessentially English chair style.

Examples made for great houses and gardens, academic institutions, Oliver Goldsmith and Captain Cook will be displayed. Lenders include the V&A and National Trust.

The chairs will range in style from garden-type 'Forest' chairs to some of the most elegant mahogany and 'gothic' types. Windsors at Wycombe will be the definitive display of the most aristocratic Windsor chairs, made before the onset of 19th century mechanisation and mass production. Discover more about this much-loved English design, that went on to become an enduring success in the USA, and continues to inspire and influence furniture makers today.

British Horse Loggers Raffle

The British Horse Loggers Charitable Trust has established a three year apprenticeship to recruit and train new entrants to the craft of horse logging. The apprenticeship is skills led and covers all aspects of running a successful horse logging business including woodland management, the horse work and running a small business.

The Charity relies upon charitable and private donations for the apprenticeship as it, deliberately, falls outside the Government scheme.

The Morgan Motor Company
has generously donated a new 3 Wheeler sports car for the horse Loggers Trust to raffle. Tickets are £10 each in books of five and the draw will take place in September 2012. There are only 2,400 books printed.

To buy a ticket (or to receive some to sell on our behalf) visit;     http://www.britishhorseloggerscharitabletrust.org/pages/morganraffle.htm
