sharpening microscopy

Postby rsk » Wed Apr 04, 2018 5:44 pm

In the interests of trying to get a better understanding and feel for sharpening tools, it would be great to see microscope images of a cutting edge at various stages of sharpening. For example: what does an edge look like when it is blunt, sharpened with 240, 800, 1500, 2500 grit, stropped with honing compound? What does a burr / wire edge look like up close? Anyone ever seen examples of such images?

Google "Brent beach sharpening"
Brent did a lot of sharpening experiments, and took pictures with a microscope of the results.
