At the AGM a couple of years ago I showed a shoert video of Japanese hewing demonstrated at "kesurokai" in Germany 2005. We have just posted some video on youtube you can see it via my blog here

Thanks for this, and all the other links you post.
As someone who generally wears sandles, and gets comments, particularly at work, it is interesting to see someone in bare feet.
You make sure you know where your toes are if they are not inside steel toecaps :D

Cheers Simon, nice to know they are appreciated, Nicola does all the hard work editing the videos, it takes quite a while. To be honest with the weight and sharpness of that axe leather boots would make no difference and I am not even sure if steelies would stop it. Best just keep the toes out the way.

slightly off topic but there waqs a study between workers in Wales and Malaysia. Both groups were cutting grass on steep resevoir banks. The Malays were bare foot, the Welsh wore steel toe cape boots. Foot injuries were much higher in Wales and the conclusion was that the bare foot workers were more aware of their feet and didn't flymo them so readily. Not that I'd avocate bare foot mowing in Wales, its to cold and wet!
