Service Description

This class is for those who have turned a handful or many bowls on a foot-powered lathe and are ready to start making more complex pieces. One of the most satisfying things we have made on a pole lathe are locking lid boxes. During this class you will learn about box orientation in wood and how to axe and turn a locking lid box. These boxes differ from a friction-lidded box in that you use additional tools to create a channel and lip in order to create the ‘lock’. This class requires a few unique tools to the process therefore if you have your own tip up and tip down you are welcome to bring them but you will need to use our tools to complete the process**. This class requires prior experience turning bowls on a foot-powered lathe; if you are unsure about your experience please contact us. . If you are interested in taking the set of turning hooks for Locking lid boxes home you can purchase them at the ball or in advance (please contact me) and we will bring them to the ball for you. Intermediate - Advanced (has turned 5-10 bowls minimum) Please note- will be standing all day and there will be strain on knees, hips and upper body. Please consider this before booking - however, those with reasonable physical fitness should have no trouble completing the course .. You should also have enclosed shoes.
