A Definitive Exhibition of 18th century English Windsor Chairs from the 6th to 31st May 2012 at West Wycombe Park (NT), Bucks This first ever exhibition to feature exclusively the earliest English Windsor chairs, made from around 1720, will include some 35 of the finest examples known from public and private collections in the UK. Focusing mainly on chairs crafted in the Thames Valley region, Windsors at Wycombe will be a perfect and possibly once-only opportunity to see how provincial and city makers varied in their interpretations of this quintessentially English chair style. Examples made for great houses and gardens, academic institutions, Oliver Goldsmith and Captain Cook will be displayed. Lenders include the V&A and National Trust. The chairs will range in style from garden-type 'Forest' chairs to some of the most elegant mahogany and 'gothic' types. Windsors at Wycombe will be the definitive display of the most aristocratic Windsor chairs, made before the onset of 19th century mechanisation and mass production. Discover more about this much-loved English design, that went on to become an enduring success in the USA, and continues to inspire and influence furniture makers today. British Horse Loggers RaffleThe British Horse Loggers Charitable Trust has established a three year apprenticeship to recruit and train new entrants to the craft of horse logging. The apprenticeship is skills led and covers all aspects of running a successful horse logging business including woodland management, the horse work and running a small business. The Anson Engine Museum
The Museum is open Fri, Sat and Sun from Easter to the end of October. In particular, our craft days have been hugely popular and at our closing weekend we were very pleased to have four members of the APT & GW Association in attendance and demonstrating. Two other members have also expressed interest in joining next year so a local mini group is a distinct possibility. In addition to demonstrating pole lathe turning we also featured some of the agricultural machines that we are in the process of restoring to their former glory.
