If you have events for 2010 please drop me a line or use the Ask & Answer bulletin board to advertise your event. Teddy Bear's Picnic in Slough House Wood
Nick and Katie Abbott invite APT&GW members to a Bodger's weekend in Slough House Wood, Danbury, Essex to be held from Friday evening August 27th to Sunday afternoon August 29th. For those who have not been before there is a large shelter to work in in wet weather. You will need: a tent if you are staying the night, eating and drinking equipment, food and drink to use with it (though meals become very communal affairs so bring food that will mix!), a lathe and/or shaving horse if you have one and some tools. We can supply green wood. We encourage the blacksmiths among you to come along with your gear and we will make charcoal for you.
Please let us know if you are coming, e-mail us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and if you've not been before we will send you directions
A Polelathe Turning CompetitionThe Worshipful Company of Turners is running a competition with a class for polelathe turning in association with the APT&GW. To be held on the 16th of June in Blackfriars London. Full details and entry form.
The Anson Engine Museum
The Museum is open Fri, Sat and Sun from Easter to the end of October. 2009 has proved to be our best year since opening in 1989, in terms of visitor numbers, in spite of the general economic downturn. In particular, our craft days have been hugely popular and at our closing weekend we were very pleased to have four members of the APT & GW Association in attendance and demonstrating. Two other members have also expressed interest in joining next year so a local mini group is a distinct possibility. In addition to demonstrating pole lathe turning we also featured some of the agricultural machines that we are in the process of restoring to their former glory and a small Gardner engine powering a potato chipper, the resultant chips were deep fat fried and enjoyed by all. For next year, we are already busy working on a brand new exhibition of engines celebrating 150 years of the internal combustion engine, a new shop and reception area, a reorganised local history display and our 1903 Stott mill engine, which, 45 years since it last worked will be in steam. The craft centre will be open again in 2010 on the following dates from 10am to 5pm and a warm welcome is extended to anyone wishing to join us,
